Deserving of love (Or not)
Flipping through Instagram as usual on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Out of the blue, a post came on, it was not the usual happy, motivational quote. It was one saying “You do not deserve love… blah blah”.
Apologies for the Blah and Blah, for I was taken aback by the quote.
“You do not deserve love”.
Quotes that we usually want to see are those that pick us up, motivates us to do more and be more of who we can be. However this quote, hits harder than a bolt of lightning.
Deserves meaning (taken from cambridge dictionary) is to have earned or to be given something because of the way you have behaved or the qualities you have.
We all know and learn that we deserve love in some kind
Love from people we truly love, people we truly need and those we call ours, and they too do the same. We are social creatures, needing interaction and emotions to create a bond, but in it somewhere, is love meant to be earned? Can we ever truly deserve the love we get?
One way is that through our parents. Our parents brought us into this world, we deserve their love, dont we? Being a son or a daughter of our parents, is that enough? I know some children have to earn a A, be the top scorer, or even become a lawyer before their parents even consider loving them. Is that even love in the first place? Well, it is confusing, but as children, do we deserve the love from our parents too?
Our relationships with our spouses, girlfriends/boyfriends, do we think they deserve love? Or do we give it unconditionally? Do we feel like we deserve the love we get from them, being their choice through thick and thin? Not here to tear any feelings apart, congrats if you are together! However, do you ever feel you deserve what they have given you, their love?
These questions aren’t meant to be answered immediately
They are just for thoughts. For me, my opinion, is that sometimes we dont deserve love… sometimes we feel as though we are the worst, broken beyond repair to deserve love from anyone. Maybe it’s reverse psychology to make us improve ourselves, to pick up the pieces, pick up our parts or to just be grateful for all that we have and the love we receive from those who love us back. To not take for granted the people who truly love you unconditionally!
